A family-run restaurant offering exceptional culinary experiences
“Pod Aniołami”has been a family business since 1893. It is a truly extraordinary place – local legend even says that real angels dwell within its historic Gothic cellars…
A multiple recipient of top awards and both national and international distinctions, as well as a participant in Kraków’s most prestigious events, the restaurant invites guests to enjoy original, unforgettable, and signature celebrations.
The restaurant is renowned for its marinated meats, roasted over an open beechwood fire in a traditional grill oven, as well as for its other Old Polish specialties. It also boasts a selection of over 120 carefully chosen wines, including Polish wines, which are increasingly appreciated by wine enthusiasts today.
With its historic 13th-century interiors, antique culinary equipment, and outstanding cuisine rooted in Polish tradition, the restaurant brings its distinguished guests closer to the atmosphere of medieval Royal Kraków.
At “Pod Aniołami,” time stands still, preserving the enchanting charm of the old city. Our stunning interiors and exceptional cuisine draw guests from across the globe, and we have had the honor of hosting some of the most prominent figures of modern times.
The Burgrave’s Chamber
Upstairs, we invite you to the Burgrave’s Chamber, named after the historic governor of Wawel Castle. Here, Burgrave Michał Augustyn Howel once hosted royal dignitaries for lavish banquets, where his chefs would adorn meats and gingerbread with real gold leaf – both for a touch of extravagance and for its supposed health benefits. Today, guests can also admire the original 18th-century polychrome wall paintings preserved in this room.
The Courtyard Patio
Equally enchanting is our Patio, tucked away in a medieval courtyard and featuring a beautiful mosaic fountain. Be sure to toss a coin in for good luck to guarantee your return…
The restaurant is housed in a 13th-century townhouse along the historic “Royal Route” leading to Wawel Castle – a path once walked by kings, knights, and merchants. For over three hundred years, this very building was home to Kraków’s master goldsmiths, who melted down ducats and thalers into exquisite ornaments and chalices, while crafting the gold leaf that embellished historic culinary feasts.
We invite you on a culinary journey through the flavors of Old Polish cuisine.
